About SMART Academy Services

SMART Academy is a 501c3 Non-Profit Corporation designed to recruit, engage, and excite students interested in learning more about STEM programs and careers. We feature robotics, video game design, basic circuits & code, and software coding.  We also provide remedial classes and other services and experiences for youth in the community through various established community partnerships and groups. Through readiness training, we are grooming our youths to be competitive.  

 

 

Mission

At SMART Academy, our mission is equipping young people from underserved communities with the tools to be technically and mentally prepared to successfully obtain higher learning education in STEM related careers, ultimately becoming our future leaders and trailblazers.

 

 

SMART Founders

Ms. Rena S. Hill

Ms. Hill retired from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control  (LMMFC) in 2021.  She has over 35 years of experience in Department of Defense and military contracting in the area of Hardware and Software Configuration Management.  In addition to working at LMMFC, Rena worked several years at H&R Block as a Tax Specialist. 

She is currently a realtor and manages her own real estate.  After retirement, she made a promise to herself to pay it forward within the community to help disadvantaged kids excel in math and science.  Her passion for working with kids tracks back to 1992.  Her community service includes working with Big Brothers Big Sisters, volunteer community tutor, and a participant in LMMFC  Middle School Mentor program. 

Rena holds a BS Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Florida A&M University and a MS Degree in Management/Contracts Management from Florida Institute of Technology. 

 

Dr. Gloria Barber

Dr. Barber has a passion for People, Process and Purpose.  With more than 30 years of experience as an Executive in Human Resources and Program Management fields, Gloria has worked across various industries, global markets and organizations.  Her passions have led her to help launch new generations into their futures through various educational and training programs.

Gloria has served on various community boards and currently supports the Orange County Black History Committee of Central Florida/Endowment as Events & Programs Chairperson, providing over 110 college scholarships to  disadvantaged students.  She is an avid writer and published author of multiple books as well as public speaker.

Gloria holds a BS in Electronic Engineering Technology from Florida A&M University, MS degree in Business Administration/Management, MS in Human Resource Management from Florida Institute of Technology, plus a Doctorate in Human Resource Development from Barry University, OLL among major certifications and training licenses.
